A few years ago the most ruthless traders in the stock market were slick suit wearing gordon gekko types. Now they are a community of meme loving retail investors who congregate virtually on reddit. They call themselves the 'apes'.

The hedge-funds and institutional financial firms had a brutal introduction to the 'apes' on r/WallStreetBets in early 2021 when the power of the 'apes' caused an $11 billion rise in the share price of the nearly bankrupt game store, GameStop.

The hedge funds lost their bets on the stock and some of the apes got rich.

The 'apes' are driven by a subversive sense of humour and the lure of wealth, and are fighting for a fair market which the 99% of the population can thrive instead of the 1%.

The movement has grown to numbers in the region of 15 million worldwide.
